She began teaching art in the Battle Creek school system and continued when her family moved to Wausau in 1964. After retiring from teaching with the Wausau Public Schools she and Harry traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and many islands of the Caribbean. They also made many trips to visit their children in Wisconsin, Illinois and Florida. She was an avid reader, loved music and gardening and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
