Ellen Frei Schmuhl, 98, of Oshkosh, died at Bethel Home on Thursday, April 20, 2006 and passed into the presence of her Lord. She was born on December 23, 1907 in Cushing, OK to Louie and Ida (Eitzman) Frei. Ellen married Everett Bloch Schmuhl on June 20, 1929 in Fairwater, WI, where they both grew up. They celebrated sixty-four years of marriage until Ebs death on February 11, 1993.Ellen was employed for many years as a bookkeeper at various businesses in the Oshkosh area. She retired in 1972 at the age 65, from Henry Kirks Bookkeeping Service. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, watching Packer games, doing daily Bible reading and especially enjoyed being with her family. She was an active member and volunteer of Grace Lutheran Church in Appleton, and of the First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. She participated in the Dorcas Circle and in the Christian Fellowship Society for many years. She volunteered at Bethel Home gift shop and the Oshkosh Seniors Center gift shop. She also served the community through her work with Triad.She is survived by three sons, Roger (Patricia) Schmuhl of Spring Hill, FL, Michael (Mary) Schmuhl of Hot Springs Village, AR, Martin (Bonnie) Schmuhl of Independence, MO, a daughter, Mary Ellen Bakken of Oshkosh, thirteen grandchildren (and nine spouses), and seventeen great grandchildren, and two sisters, Florence Middlestead-Schaefer of New Berlin, WI, and Virginia Redeker-Coats of West Bend, WI. Preceding Ellen in death were her husband, her parents, and four of her six siblings, Beatrice Ries, Edward Frei, Melvin Frei, and Lorraine Nelson.Her celebration of life service will be Saturday April 29, 2006 at Noon at First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota Street with the Rev. Charles Fluegel officiating. A time of visitation and support will precede services from 11:00 A.M. to services at the church. A luncheon at the church will follow. Burial will be at the Fairwater Cemetery following the luncheon. Memorials have been established for Wisconsin Hospice and for the benevolences of First English Lutheran Church.Ellen was encouraged repeatedly by these thoughts: The Lords mercies never cease. The Lords compassions never fail. The Lords faithfulness never diminishes. She is commended into the Lords keeping.
