Elmer Eric Helin

E. Eric Helin, 89 years of age, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2017 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. His wife of 66 years, Barbara, was by his side. Eric was born on August 26, 1927 in Meriden, Connecticut where he resided until relocating to Oshkosh in 1995 to be closer to family. Eric was the son of Emma and Robert Helin.
Eric graduated from Meriden High School and Bryant University (Smithfield, Rhode Island) with a degree in Finance. He was a Certified Financial Planner and held various financial positions over his career culminating in the Chief Financial Officer position at Hartford Special Machinery Company in Simsbury, Connecticut.
Eric was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was very active in Immanuel Lutheran Church (Meriden) for years. Eric was an avid golfer his entire life. He also loved woodworking and World War ll aircraft. Eric’s greatest hobby, joy and love was for his family, especially his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Daniel, John, Eric and Laura.
Eric is survived by his wife Barbara; his son Todd Helin and his wife Pamela (Southlake, TX) and children Elizabeth (Andrew), Stephanie and Eric; his daughter Karyn Helin (Madison, WI); and his daughter Marcia McDermott and her husband Tom (Oshkosh, WI) and children Daniel, John and Laura.
He is also survived by his two nephews, Tom (Joann) and David Altieri, great niece, Jeannine (Jimmy); his sister-in-law, Caroline Quilty and his niece Caroline, and nephews Joseph and James and their families.
Eric is predeceased by his parents, Emma and Robert Helin and his sister, Eunice Altieri and her husband, Tom and son, Richard. He is also predeceased by his brother-in-law James Quilty.
A wonderful man has come and gone from this earth. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
A service for Eric will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Calvary Lutheran Church (2580 W 9th Ave, Oshkosh, WI). Rev. Timothy Routh will be officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers or a donation, always remember kindness and respect toward others as our dad always did. He was a kind, gentle man.
