Elsie A. Skaug, 93, of Oshkosh died Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born August 5, 1920 to the late Herman and Amanda Meixl. She married Philp Skaug on December 5, 1940, at St. Peter Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2010. Elsie graduated from St. Peter High School and was the Prom Queen. She worked for many years during the Christmas season at Miles Kimball as a proof reader. Her favorite things to do were read, watch old movies, listen to big band music, and she never missed watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights. She enjoyed going to the cabin near Crivitz and going out to eat, where she enjoyed a brandy old fashioned sweet with mushrooms. Family was so important to Elsie and the more time she got to spend with them the happier she was.Elsie is survived by three sons, Thomas (Pam) Skaug, Timothy (Maryann) Skaug, and Terry (Annette) Skaug all of Oshkosh; a sister Dorita (Lenard) Woloszyk of Greendale; six grandchildren, Tammy, Tina, Sherry, Joshua (Teresa), Matthew (Lacie), and Elsie (Adam) Bunck; six great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Ally, Nathaniel, Lilyanah, Wyatt, and Kaylee; a cousin, Margie Johnson; godchildren, Donald Holdren and Diane Trudell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine Holdren and Audree Pegel; and a brother, Earl Meixl.A memorial service for Elsie will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Home Chapel (225 N. Eagle St.), Rev. Bill Van De Kreeke officiating. Visitation will be at the Bethel Home Chapel from 10 a.m. until the service. Inurnment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.Elsies family thanks the Bethel Home staff and Mercy Medical Center staff for all the special care. A special thank you goes to Patti Julius for all her loving visits, extremely long talks, and also for being there at the end. Also, a special thank you to Barbara Chapin for taking Elsie out to lunch almost every Sunday and going for a long ride after. Joshua, Teresa, Isaiah, and Ally-what you did for grandma week after week after week was so extra special and will never be forgotten.
