Elsie I. Radl, was born to Max and Anna Schuettpelz on November 28, 1919, in Suring WI as the youngest of seven children. Preceding her in death were Brothers, Elmer (Arlene), Ervin (Rufina), Roy (Mavis), Merlin (Doris), and Sisters, Norma Bahr (Henry) and Evelyn Elfe (Harold). Elsie is survived by three children: Jerolyn Fitzgerald (Gordon) of Houma Louisiana; Mark Radl (Carol) of Oshkosh, and Myrna Breier (Radl) (Bruce) of La Jolla, California. She also has four grandchildren: Stephanie Dahl and Matthew Dahl (Heather); Joshua Radl (Sadie) and Jami Zwiefelhofer (Luke). Two step-grandchildren survive her: William Breier (Alison) and Karen Hargrave (Matt); her great grandchildren include: Harleigh and Jonathan Dahl and Hannah, Micah, and Isaac Zwiefelhofer, and Miles Breier. She was married for 59 and a half years to the love of her life, Clarence G. Radl, who preceded her in death on December 30th, 2000. They lived much of their married life in Oshkosh, WI. Elsie moved to Gabriels Villa in 2009 and had enjoyed new friends and activities during her four-year stay. She often referred to her new home as her cruise ship since she had been fortunate enough to have experienced four real cruises in her lifetime to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, and Canada.Elsie was the only child in her family of 7 children to complete her high school diploma and the only one to attend college at Stevens Point College where she completed her teaching certification. Her first teaching position was in Suring, WI, in a one-room school. Hayes Brook School was about three miles from her home. Her next teaching position was gratis as the wife of Clarence, whom she met at her home parish of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Together they taught for three years as parochial teachers for the parish school. After raising three children, Elsie returned to teaching in Winnebago County at Oak Grove School near the Fond du Lac County line until the system closed the one-room schools of the county and Elsie concluded her final 26 years at Lakeside School in the Oshkosh Area School System. Altogether she taught for 36 years and was a very innovative teacher, ahead of her time, and beloved by former students even to this day.In retirement, Elsie was an active volunteer, having as many as five volunteer jobs at one time. They included: helping at 3 gift shops at Parkview Health Center, Mercy Hospital, and Bethel Home. She was secretary for the Retired Teachers Association, counted funds at her Trinity Lutheran Church, worked on Red Cross projects, and even honed her music skills as a member of the Trinity Lutheran Kitchen Band. She often played the stumpfiddle (a pole with assorted devices for rhythm), and performed whenever the occasion arose. The twelve-year history of the band ended but Elsie reconstituted the band at Gabriels Villa. Alas, the band was short lived because many of the band members had hearing problems and couldnt quite get the beat.Elsie was known for her cooking and baking skills and sold many homemade pies, cookies, cakes, and bars to residents and staff at Parkview and Mercy. Her from scratch sweet rolls were enjoyed by her family and neighbors over the years, and many memories were created around the kitchen table. She also made a great batch of nuts and bolts. She was loved by all, and anyone who ever met her was taken in with her hospitality and energy. She truly had one of those smiles that would brighten your day. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and make someone laugh.Elsie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Oshkosh for many years and will be remembered most for her strong faith in Jesus as her personal Savior. Our Mother would say or sing the doxology most days of her life. So, Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below. Praise him above ye heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen May you rest in peace in the Arms of our Heavenly Father. Your earthly presence will be truly missed.Viewing will take place at Konrad-Behlman Eastside, 402 Waugoo Avenue on Saturday, June 8, from 3 - 6 PM and again at Trinity Ev.
