Esther L. Stegemann (nee Craver), age 89, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at The Waterford of Oshkosh with her family by her side. She was born on November 29, 1927 in Kitzmiller, MD to the late Joseph and Dora (Burrell) Craver.
Esther graduated high school and achieved an associate degree in nursing before joining the Women’s Army Corps.
She was a part of the Oshkosh Singles Dining Club, life member of Winnebago County Historical and Archeological Society, YMCA, Grand Opera House Guild, Salvation Army volunteer, Friends of Oshkosh Convention Center, Father Carr’s Place 2B, Sears Retiree Club, Celebrity Club and was on the Oshkosh Senior Center board of directors as well as volunteering many years at the Chamber of Commerce.
Esther is survived by her daughters: Janice (Michael) Carder of Stevens Point and Janet (John) Sonnleitner of Appleton; grandchildren: Adalia, Chris (Kelly), Brian (special friend Vicki), Laura and Jordan; sister: Pastor JoAnn Craver of Phoenix, AZ; daughter-in-law: Susan K. Smith-Stegemann and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son: Pastor Joseph Stegemann; sisters: Georgia Mae Kania and Mary Elizabeth Craver; and brothers: Leonard, Woodrow, Robert and Harry Craver.
A funeral service for Esther will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Lake View Memorial Park (2786 Algoma Blvd.) with Rev. Dan Wetzel officiating. Visitation will be held at Lake View from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials can be made to the Oshkosh Salvation Army or to Countryside Christian Church in Esther’s name.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Waterford of Oshkosh and to Heartland Hospice for all the love and care they provided to Esther in the last days of her life.
