Eugene Randall Gene Turner, 80, died February 27, 2010, at his daughters home in Oshkosh, WI after losing a courageous battle to a rare disease called Multiple System Atrophy.A service took place at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes including full military honors, and his ashes will be buried at sea by the United States Navy off the coast of San Diego, CA.He was born Dec. 30th, 1929 in La Junta, Colorado to Benjamin Franklin and Mildred (Flinn) Turner.He graduated from Oregon State University, and received graduate degrees from the University of Florida and University of California, Berkeley.He served in the United States Navy for over 20 years, and retired as a Commander. He served overseas and spent a number of years in Africa doing research as a medical entomologist and then working in the private sector in environmental health. In retirement, he went back to work as a substitute elementary school teacher.He is survived by his wife, Ria, his sons Randy of Fort Worth, TX, Glenn of Arlington, TX, Fred of Santa Fe, NM, Alan of South Glens Falls NY, and his daughter, Diana of Oshkosh, WI as well as five grandchildren.Many thanks to the wonderful providers at Aurora Medical Center and especially the Hospice service for their excellent care of our father. He will be truly missed!
