Franklin B. H. Uncle Dick Laabs, 96 of Oshkosh died at Park View Health Center on Wednesday January 14, 2009. He was born in Unity, Clark County on September 9, 1912, a son of William and Anna Merke Laabs. On October 11, 1933 he married Ella Lelita Logeman in Greenwood, WI.Franklin was born and raised a cheese maker. He farmed in Clark County, worked for H.P. Schmidt Milling in Oshkosh, and was a truck driver. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Omro, and a former member of the mens club at Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved playing with school kids and baking for them, reading, gardening and telling stories. Survivors include one son, Donald (Jo Ann) Laabs, Omro; one daughter, Margaret (Donald) Gantner, Oshkosh; one sister, Tootsie Milestone, Schullsberg, WI; 13 grandchildren, Deborah (special friend Chuck Hunter) Gantner, Michael (Bev) Gantner, Ralph (Kathleen) Gantner, Dale (Julie) Gantner, Sharon (Chris) Schumacher, Duke (Diane) Laabs, Cheryl (Don) Wendt, Karen (Rocky) Wischow, Eugene (special friend Dawn) Laabs, Kevin (Shelli) Laabs, Darren (Lisa) Laabs, Louise (Jeff) Ernest, Melissa (Troy) Steinbecker; 28 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and one daughter-in-law Judith Laabs, Menasha. Preceding him in death were his dear wife Ella, son Harold Laabs, daughter Dorothy Laabs, a great grandson, Eric Schumacher, two brothers, William Jr. and Alfred, four sisters, Margaret, Leona, Lorinda and Mildred.Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church (720 Jackson Ave. Omro) on Saturday January 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Richard Bartholomew officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM to the time of service. Interment will be at Green Grove Cemetery in Colby WI. on Monday January 19, 2009 at 11:30 AM. A memorial has been established.Special thanks to all the caregivers at Park View Health Center for their care and compassion.Live one day at a time, enjoy one moment at a time.
