Frederick R. Mentzel, 58 of Oshkosh, died unexpectedly on Tuesday February 13, 2007 at the Appleton Medical Center. He began his work career at Hoffmaster Co. in 1968 and remained there until the time of his death. Answering his countrys draft call, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.On May 16, 1970 he wed Barbara Marvin at St. Peters Parish. His joy of life was being a true Race-fan-atic. He followed the local drivers from track to track in the area. In the winter months, he raced slot cars to fulfill the need for speed.Fred is survived by his wife, Barbara, son, Dan (Renee) Mentzel of Winneconne, daughters, Stacey (Gary) Reed, and Ann (Jason) Setzer of Green Bay, brothers, Chuck (special friend, Geri Klest) Mentzel of Naples, FL, Dick Mentzel of Oshkosh, Don (Cindy) Mentzel of Appleton, sister, Bonnie (Dan) Guyette of Mackville, WI, brothers-in-law David (Sue) Marvin, Paul (Linda) Marvin, Tom (Darlene) Marvin, and Chuck (Deb) Marvin all of Berlin, WI, sisters-in-law, Diane (Bill) Seaman of Valrico, FL, and Mary (Mark) Nighbor of Kennewick, WA., numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and racing buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don Mentzel Sr. and Frances Rothe Mentzel.Freds funeral will be Saturday February 17, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside with the Rev. Karen Jewell officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from Noon until the time of the service.
