Frederick J. Sperling, Age 88, of Oshkosh, quietly passed Sunday, March, 20th, 2011, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh.Born May 5, 1922, in Chicago, IL to the late Frederick Sr and Meta Sperling. Fred served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp Fighter Squadron #216, as a Master Sergeant with active duty from 1941-1946 and reserve duty until 1982. Fred serviced his community through many organizations including St Judes Parish, for over 30 years, where he lectured and served on the school board. Fred was also an active member of Kiwanis International for over 30 years holding the positions of Lieutenant Governor and President. Over the years, he also provided many years of service to other organizations including Overflow Foodbank and Jaycees in Omro, Oshkosh Chapter of Barber Shoppers, Meals On Wheels, Winnebago County Literacy Council, WIC (Woman, Infants and Children) and EAA museum docent. Fred was also a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in Omro and alderman on Omro City Council. Freds non-military career began as a salesman for Transo Envelope Company and in 1958 started his own printing company, Printco Inc., Omro WI. He retired from Printco in 1987, and then purchased a Century 21 Real estate franchise. You could often see Fred riding his motorcycle around town until his 85th birthday and he loved to play cards with friends and family.Fred is survived by his brothers Robert Sperling of Des Plaines, IL and Richard (Rita) Sperling of Niles, IL; first wife Jeanne Sperling of Oshkosh; two sons Ronald (Carol) Sperling of Fox Island, WA, and Kenneth (Mary) Sperling of Oshkosh, and Step Daughter in Law Patty Bonneau, Step Children James (Karen) Scofield, Barb Sales, Thomas (Julie) Scofield of Oshkosh; Cindy (Dan) Schmidt of Pine River, Grandson Philip (Jen) Sperling and Great Grandson Andrew of Omro; Step Granddaughter Jennel Sohm of Oshkosh and several other beloved Step Grandchildren.Along with his parents, Fred was also preceded in death by his brother Larry Sperling, his wife Grace Sperling and step son David Scofield.A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Judes Parish (Sacred Heart Church - 1025 W 5th Avenue Street) on Thursday March 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Simonar officiating. Family and friends may visit at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-westside on Wednesday March 23, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service. Internment will be in Calvary Cemetery.Freds family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen and Heartland Hospice for all of the wonderful care and concern they provided.
