Frieda Wellman passed away and entered her heavenly home, on March 31, 2011. She had been a resident of the Lutheran Home in Fond Du Lac, WI. Her age was 101 years and nine months.Alfrida Hulda Dallmann was born on June 25, 1909 her parents were Friedrich and Anna (Falk) Dallmann. She was born at the family home in Wellington Township, Renville County, Minnesota. She was baptized on July 16, 1909 at Emmanuel Evangelic Lutheran Church, Wellington Township. At the age of one, she came down with polio and the doctor came out with a horse and buggy to check on her. He was so convinced she wouldnt make it until morning that he conveyed this to someone in Fairfax. The next day her obituary was published! She often commented on this and laughed about the fact that she fooled them all. When she was about two years old the family sold the farm and moved to Fairfax, Minnesota, where her father opened a butcher shop. She attended St. Johns parochial school. In first grade she contracted scarlet fever. This always seemed to upset her, as her once straight blond hair all fell out and grew back in, curly and red. At the age of nine her family moved to a farm near Riplinger, Wisconsin. She attended school until eighth grade when she started as a nanny to a school teacher, Mrs. Prine. While taking care of Mrs. Prines children, Frieda earned a high school education by helping the teacher correct student papers. She was confirmed in 1924 at St. Johns Riplinger. As a young woman, Frieda played the organ for the Lutheran church in Riplinger and in Veefkind. She started dating Gerhardt Wellman when she was sixteen and he was eighteen. They finally married seven years later on September 20, 1935. Their early years were spent in Marshfield, WI. Her oldest son Clayton was born their in 1938. A few years later, they moved to Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin and their second son Douglas was born in 1942. There she worked at the Canvas Products Company sewing corsets and band uniforms. Frieda and Jerry moved to Milwaukee and she enjoyed many years there working in the baby area at the Moreway Department Store. After Jerry retired, they moved to Oshkosh and Frieda worked part-time at Miles-Kimball in the engraving department.Frieda was an excellent example of what Christ meant when He said we should be servants, on to another. Her happiest role in life was as Mother and Grandmother. She loved to cook, bake, and sew for all the family, especially her grandchildren. Many happy times were spent playing cards with family and friends. She and Jerry loved to travel, particularly in the autumn to see the colorful leaves in Michigan.Frieda was a member of Zion Lutheran church in Van Dyne, Wisconsin where she belonged to the Ladies Aid. She also supported the work of the Lutheran Womens Mission Society. Frieda is survived by her sons, Clayton and Douglas and his wife, Catherine, all of Oshkosh.
