George E. “Bud” Schmidt, age 96, passed away on April 2, 2017 at Parkview Health Center. He was born to the late Charles and Martha (Bittner) Schmidt in Oshkosh on November 30, 1920. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1942 and served for the duration of the war, being discharged in 1946. Bud worked as a custodial supervisor for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for 23 years, retiring at age 62.
After retiring he enjoyed helping his friends, family, and neighbors with home improvement projects, fishing with his buddies, gardening and traveling.
Bud is survived by his daughter, Susan Reyes; nieces and nephews, Paul (Nancy) Bidwell, David (Khuy) Bidwell, Debbie Curtis, Becky (Richard) Nourse, Cindy (Michael) Kilp, Mark(Linda) Bidwell, Mary(Derrick) Schuman, Brent(Doris) Trickel, Billy(Deloris)Trickel, Bruce(Louise) Trickel, Charlotte Dillabough, Barbara(Robert) Larson, Robert Schmidt Jr., Michael (Phyllis) Nigl, Sally(David) Butcher, and James Cronin.
Bud is further survived by his special friends include Gordy (Debra) Peppler, Rebekah Peppler, Michael (Susan) Warczak, Tony (Jan) Grable, their daughter Hannah, and Angel, his special therapy dog,
Bud was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert (Arlene), Edward (Betty) Schmidt andCharles Schmidt; four sisters, Hazel Walsh, Louise Schmidt, Elizabeth(Brian) Trickel, Julaine (Barney) Bidwell; nephew, Arthur (Mary Ann) Walsh; Niece, JoAnn Randall. Bud is further preceeded in death by his best friends and in-laws, Clifford (Mildred) Nigl.
Services for Bud will be at 11AM on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Konrad-Behlman Eastside (402 Waugoo Ave). Rev. Ralph Hanusa will be officiating. Visitation will be from 9AM until the time of service.
Buds family would like to give a special thank you to his coffee group at B.A.B.S for their thoughts, prayers, support, and many laughs- Nick, Mary Beth, Mary Jo, Sheila, Marilyn, Linda, Bob, Jay, and Nancy.
I am also grateful to Timothy Killilea, Kathy Marsh, and Ann Fogtman for their devotion to my dad during his final days and to all other family members for their support and love.
Thank you to Affinity Hospice for the love, kindness, and support they gave not only to my father and to me. Special are they all, but in particular Lisa, his nurse, Crystal, his social worker, Kelly, his chaplin, Chris, his healthcare worker and Vern, a special volunteer and fellow veteran.
Thank you to the entire staff at Parkview Health Center for the love and excellent care they provided every day, every shift, and from every department. Special thank you to the staff of Woodside 2; all shifts went above and beyond. They became like extended family, I will never be able to thank them enough.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
Dad is now with his beloved Goldens, Murphy and Lenny.
