Gerald “Jerry” Thomas Williams passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Friday April 22nd, 2022, after a short battle with illness. He was born in Oshkosh on February 3rd, 1936, the son of Marshall and Martha Williams, Jerry was one of eight children. He graduated from Oshkosh High School and after high school, Jerry wanted to see the world and serve his country, so he joined the Air Force, where he served for twenty-one years. During his time with the Air Force, he married his first wife Janet and had two children, Terry, and Christopher. His second wife, Janice, with whom he had his son Mark and lived in England. After returning to Oshkosh, he met and married Carol Scheuermann with whom he enjoyed the rest of his life. His military service was as a mechanic, working on planes and helicopters. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed fishing, playing cards, eating out and visiting the casino.
He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his widow, Carol, his daughter Terry and his son Mark Williams (Christina), his stepdaughters, Jodi Butzlaff (Don) and Becki Vandehey (Rob) and his former wives, Janet Mooney and Janice Williams.
He is further survived by his grandchildren: Jeremy, Luke, and Erica Slawson. Rachel, Luke, Aiden and Alton Williams. Collin and Gage Dewhurst, Karson Resop, Trista Butzlaff. Step grandchildren: Kevin (Megumi), Ryan (Jericah), Trevor (Julie), and Colton Vandehey. Many great grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as GG-Pop. Sister-in-law: Kathy (Fred) Redman and their children Charlie (Lizzy) and Elizabeth (Trent), and other extended family members and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Christopher, and his siblings: Mary, Robert (Bob), Bernard (Bernie), Jake (Jack), George, Donald (Don) and Carlton (Babe).
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Jeffrey Knoll at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 N. Sawyer Street at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 AM until the service commences. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force, and AMVETS Post 7 following the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
His family would like to recognize those who cared for Jerry throughout the years and during his time at Mercy Ascension’s ICU dept. in Oshkosh, especially the wonderful nurses and care staff. A special thank you to Dr. Lars Swanson, Dr. Donald Brescia, Dr. Francisco Zornosa and the VA medical staff at Appleton, Green Bay and Milwaukee.
