Gertrude Sommerfeld Payne

Gertrude Sommerfeld Payne, age 97, of Neenah, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Cherry Meadows Hospice. She was born on June 7, 1917 in Parshall, ND the daughter of John and Elizabeth Lesser. She married Alfred Sommerfeld on April 15, 1937. Alfred preceded her in death on November 1, 1984. She married Bernard Payne on October 28, 1990 and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2002.Gertrude retired from Pluswood Industries and after retirement loved learning new skills such as water color painting, stained art, automobile maintenance, carpentry, and re-learned the German language she had forgotten as a child. She also loved watching 3ABN, the Seventh Day Adventist station. She is survived by her children, Darlene Darrow, Daniel Sommerfeld and Jerry (Sharon) Sommerfeld, a brother, Art Lesser and sister, Hannah Hedrick. She is further Survived by eight grandchildren, Brian (Laura) Zobel, Diane (John) Halbach, Troy (Bonnie) Sommerfeld, Jason (Michelle) Sommerfeld, Kathy Stark, Carol (Sonny) Hilt, Patricia Stark and James (Michelle) Stark; eight great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Conrad, Phillip, Henry, Eli, Edward, and Harry; Sisters, Martha, Bertha, Alma, Emma, Frieda, Irene, and Madeline; stepdaughter, Ona Stark and grandson, Keith Stark.The funeral service for Gertrude will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Lake View Memorial Park Chapel (2786 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh). Visitation will be at the chapel from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Carlos Ancheta of Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church, Neenah will officiate.The family wishes a sincere thank you to the staff of Theda Care Hospice at Cherry Meadows for the care and concern that was given mother.
