Gilbert Walter Discher

Gilbert "Gib" W. Discher, of Oshkosh, died Saturday March 13, 2010 at Bethel Home on his 89th birthday. He was born in Oshkosh in 1921 a son of Otto and Ellen Berg Discher. On January 24, 1942 he married Leona Janness in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death in 2002.He was a veteran of the Army serving during WWII and following his arrival back in the states 1945 he started Discher Brother Constuction with his brothers Melvin and Harold and worked there from 1945 until 1984. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church the American Legion, the Eagles Club, and served on the Peace Lutheran Cemetery Board. He enjoyed many things including gardening, helping Leona with the dishes, and knick-knacks around the house. He especially had a life long love of riding his bicycle, and was often seen many miles from his home by friends and relatives riding through the countryside.He is survived by one brother Melvin Discher, grandchildren Tim(Cory) Hughes, Debbie(Darrel) Bellweg, Lucy(Steve) Hartl, Christine(Steve) Dadis, Cheri Hughes, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews Gerald, James, Kristi, Barb, Bruce, Ken, Jay, Mark, Merrilee, Lorelei and one son-in-law Dennis, one sister-in-law Dorothy Janness.He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter Suzanne, three brothers Clarence, Harold, Kenneth, and one sister Anita Salszeider, sisters-in-laws Gertrude, Carol, Angeline Disher and brothers-in-law Franklin Janness and Arthur Salszeider.Funeral services for Gib will be held on Tuesday March 16, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside with Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery where military honors will be performed.A memorial has been established.
