Glenn R. Bartenstein, age 80 of Oshkosh, died on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Eden Meadows, Oshkosh. He was born in Oshkosh on January 18, 1937, the son of the late Raymond and Adeline (Koch) Bartenstein. He was united in marriage on October 14, 1961 to Virginia (Ginny) Kempinger at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oshkosh.
Glenn and his wife Ginny recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Throughout his life, Glenn enjoyed the outdoors including hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and landscaping. His passion was dogs, having owned several golden retrievers over the years and volunteering/working at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society during his retirement. Glenn also served as a hunter safety instructor, and volunteered at Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festivals. Glenn and Ginny looked forward to time at their northwoods cottage near Conover. Many hours were spent fishing with children and grandchildren, hunting and pursuing improvement projects.
Glenn was very mechanically inclined. He retired from Rockwell as a tool and cutter grinder after 32 years of service. In retirement he meticulously maintained the property surrounding their rural Oshkosh home. Glenn had a strong work ethic and high standards.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Ginny; children: Tom (Sue) of Waldo, WI, Margie (John) Pollack of Greenville, WI and Nancy (Murray) Ketteler of Blunt, SD; seven grandchildren: Ben Bartenstein of Lima, Peru, Erin Bartenstein of Madison, WI, Megan (fiancé Seth Loken) Pollack of Stevens Point, WI, Becky Pollack of LaCrosse, WI, Catie (special friend Jon Noethlich) Ketteler of Raymond, SD; Emily and Haley Ketteler of Bozeman, MT; one brother-in-law, Dick (Jewel) Kempinger, one sister-in-law, Jeri (Bob) Bezio and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Drive, with Father Matthew Rappl officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
The family would like to thank the staff at Eden Meadows for their compassionate care of Glenn during his stay there.
