Grant S. Beckfield, age 89 of Oshkosh passed away at Evergreen Retirement Community on Monday, November 14, 2022. He was born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh on August 31, 1933. He was the youngest of four children. He attended Carnegie Mellon and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college, he moved to California to get into the aerospace industry. While working at Rocketdyne, he met his wife Shirley of 58 years. They had four children. Grant also served as a Captain in the Army Reserves for 11 years.
In 1971, Grant moved his family to Oshkosh, WI after being persuaded to join the engineering team at Mercury Marine, where he became the engineering director. He retired in 1992 and enjoyed golfing, gardening, and traveling with his wife.
After Shirley passed from Parkinson’s disease, Grant moved to Evergreen Retirement Community where he spent his last years involved with various committees and social groups. He developed a second family with the many wonderful friends and staff at Evergreen.
Grant was a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church in Oshkosh where he enjoyed many years of fellowship and stewardship.
He is lovingly survived by his children: Nancy (David) Hasenohrl, Laura (Ken) Doctor, Stephen (Becky) Beckfield and Scott (Lisa) Beckfield. grandchildren: Stephanie, Michelle and Thomas Hasenohrl, Alexandria (Andrew) Streit, Grant and Russell (Allie) Doctor, Craig and Roslyn Beckfield, and Kristen (Jamie) Grossmann; great grandchildren: Marisa, Spencer, and Brantley Grossmann.
In addition to his parents, and wife, Shirley, Grant was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Stephanie Greiner and Joseph Hasenohrl. He was further preceded by his brother, Franklin Beckfield Jr., and sisters, Virginia Miller and Lois Thompson.
A memorial service for Grant will be held at the Evergreen Retirement Community chapel 1130 N. Westfield St. on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dean Desilet officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
Grant is resting in peace after receiving loving care from the Nursing Staff at Evergreen and Generations Hospice. His family will be forever grateful for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Evergreen Foundation or Generations Hospice.
