Harold R. Salzer Sr.

Harold R. Salzer Sr, age 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, November 27, 2022, in Oshkosh. He was born on September 26, 1937, to the late Carl and Alice (Stearns) Salzer Sr. in Oshkosh. Harold was united in marriage to Nancy Kuehl on February 27, 1960.

Harry enlisted and served in the national guard. He was a baker for Heiss Bakery in Oshkosh and continued his baking career for 30 more years at Winnebago Mental Health Institute until his retirement. He loved fishing at his parents’ home on the lake with his Pa. He was an avid outdoorsman and took much joy in owning property on Rush Lake. He and Nancy spent many summer days at their cottage, and he enjoyed annual hunting trips there with his boys. Known affectionately as “Bubba” by his grandkids, family meant everything to him. He was the family chef and made sure everyone was taken care of. He loved getting everyone together for fish frys, cracking jokes in the kitchen over a beer, and making his famous potato salad. In his later years he enjoyed his small vegetable garden and harvest every summer, baking fresh bread, and daily scratch off tickets. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Harold is survived by his wife, Nancy Salzer; children: Harold (Pam) Salzer Jr., Frank Salzer, Jenny (Pat) Tratz, David Salzer; grandchildren: Eric (Christopher), Lindsay (Charles), Mitchell (Robyn), Rachel (Jake); great grandchildren: Levi, Cora, Ava, Waylon, Amelia; siblings: Carl (Barb) Salzer Jr., John (Nancy) Salzer Sr., Elaine Hansen; and sisters-in-law, Judy Kuehl and Sadano Salzer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice Salzer; mother and father-in-law, Edna and Frank Kuehl; his brothers: Robert (Nancy) Salzer, Gerald Salzer; brothers-in-law: Strep Kuehl and Jerry Hansen.

A heartfelt thank you to Danielle and Eva with Compassus Hospice for assisting Harry & his family this past year.

Private family funeral services were held.
