Hazel Kitzman

Hazel Ginke Kitzman, age 102, of Oshkosh, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Bethel Home. She was born to George and Martha Zielke Ginke on December 12, 1906 in the town of Nekimi, Winnebago County. She attended a one room school and graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1923. In 1927, she received a Bachelors of Education degree from Oshkosh State College (formerly Oshkosh Normal School). She taught Junior High School in Gwinn, Michigan and DePere, Wisconsin.Hazel married Clarence Kitzman on November 10, 1934. They farmed in the Town of Black Wolf until 1977, when they retired in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. They spent over thirty winters in Tucson, Arizona and in late years the summers in their little home on Oregon Street.Hazel was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, a former member of the Dorcas Circle of the church, and a charter member of the Bethel Home Auxiliary and its Reverence Chapter. She enjoyed playing bridge in several tournaments and the Senior Center Friday Bridge day. She was also a member and president of Athena. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, her sister Elba Johnson and her son, George Kitzman. She is survived by friends, Yvonne and Clarence Schnell, Ginny Rice, Alice Potratz, Helen Wittenberg, Ray (Velda) Pokrandt, and Terry Wesenberg. Private family services will be held at a later date.
