Helen L. Stephan, age 94, of Oshkosh, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Bethel Home. She was born on September 26, 1921 in Oshkosh to the late Joseph and Erna Bernhard. Helen was married to Jack Stephan on April 20, 1946 in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1989.Helen worked as a pediatrics aide at Mercy Medical Center most of her life.She was a long time member of St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church and the Top Hats Dance Club.Helen enjoyed dancing all though out her life. Even after she had to give dancing up she still loved to be in tip top shape and always kept her hair done nice and was proud of her appearance. Helen also loved having her coffee pot on all the time and will be remembered for always welcoming everyone in for a cup of coffee and a cookie or an apple crisp. She enjoyed taking care of the many children she took care of while at Mercy and will remain known as a kind, gentle, and soft spoken woman.Helen is survived by her daughter: Sandy (Greg) Weigandt of Marietta, GA; daughter in law: Marsha Stephan of DePere, WI; son in law: Jim Bartelt of Oshkosh, WI; seven grandchildren: Cameron (Dr. Pamela) Weigandt, Maxwell (Leslie) Weigandt, Misti (Scott) Hall, Suzanne (Paul) DeLeeuw, Jack (Kelly) Stephan, Lisa Cornell, and Brian Smestad; and twelve great grand children: Katherine, Max, Ameilia, Auden, and Dexter Weigant, Jesse Hall, Helena and Willa DeLeeuw, Stephan and Chloe Cornell, and Toni and Taylor Smestad. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.Helen was preceded in death by her parents, huband: Jack; daughter: Nancy Bartelt; son: William BillStephan; and her twelve siblings: Joey Bernhard, Bernadette Benedict, Margorie Weitz, Leona Strelow, Jeanette Diener, Millie Derr, Lois Hammon, Germain Mangum, Dorothy Goetz, Vivian Roehlke, and Clarence and Victor Bernhard.A funeral service for Helen will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church (808 N. Main St.) with Rev. Jen Czarnota officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in Helens name.The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Affinity Hospice, Bethel Home, and Gabriels Villa for all the love and kindness they showed for their mother.
