Henry Harry Roesler

October 3, 1923 — June 17, 2017

Henry H. Roesler, 93, Oshkosh, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017, in the company of his wife Muriel and his daughters Karen and Kristen. Henry was born in Milwaukee to Wilhelm and Emilia Roesler. Henry served his country during World War II with the United States Navy, aboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Bunker Hill. He saw combat in the South, Central, Southwest and Western Pacific, and received a Presidential Unit Citation from the Secretary of the Navy.

Henry earned his undergraduate degree from the Stout Institute, and his Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee. He married Muriel in 1952. Together they had three children. Henry taught at Fox Valley Technical Institute from 1953 until his retirement in 1985. He and Muriel were active members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

In his younger days, Henry was a speed skater and bike racer. Later in life he pursued woodworking, designing and building hope chests, tables, quilt racks and filing cabinets. As a volunteer in the woodshop at the Oshkosh Senior Center, he branched out into building birdhouses, garden sheds, and tool cabinets. He loved keeping his own weather statistics, so for many years he knew from day to day what the high and low temperatures had been, and calendared the information so he could compare it with previous years. He also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.

Henry is survived by his wife, Muriel; two daughters, Karen Roesler and Kristen (Tim) Schnese; two grandchildren, Robert (Wendy) Roesler Jr. and John Roesler; three great-grandchildren, Paige, Derek, and Tyler Roesler; two sisters, Florence Heinicke and Delores (Rev. Wernor) Wagner; and brother, Robert (Patricia) Roesler.

In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by his son Robert Roesler Sr.
