Herbert John Gosdeck

Herbert Tiny J. Gosdeck, age 67, of Crystal River, FL, and formerly Oshkosh, WI, died Sunday August 3, 2014, at Fox River Nursing and Rehabilitation in Appleton. Tiny was proud to be a child of God and unafraid in death as he knew he would be guided home on angels wings to be with Jesus. He was born to Herbert Louis and Dorothy (VanderWyst) Gosdeck on March 31, 1947, at the family home in Kaukauna, WI. Tiny was an alumnus of Kaukauna High School. He received his teachers certificate from Outagamie County Teachers College and continued his education at the University of Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1968, and at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN in 1969. On August 4, 1979, he married the love of his life, Ann Marie Delfosse of Menominee, MI at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS) in Kaukauna. During retirement, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church (WELS) in Beverly Hills, FL. He had worked for J.J. Security of Appleton, WI at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah, WI, as a security guard and then as an orderly for Theda Clark Medical Center where he and Ann met. In April 1979, he began working at Winnebago Mental Health Institute as an Institution Aid. In October 1982, he began working at the Wisconsin Resource Center as a Psychiatric Care Technician until his retirement in August 2000. As a young man, Tiny enjoyed rounds of golf with his friends. He enjoyed camping with his wife and children which included campfires, swimming, and pranks such as getting Yogi Bear to steal his childrens potato chips at the campsite. He was very proud to be a husband, dad, and grandfather. Throughout his life, Tiny relished traveling with his wife and children out west, with his wife to Washington State, Canada, and Niagara Falls in NY, and with his wife, children, and grandchildren to Disney World. The Green Bay Packers were always his number one team and rarely missed a televised game. Tiny was a lifelong lover of classical music and a lifelong learner. He enjoyed reading classic literature, history books and encyclopedias as well as completing brain games such as crossword puzzles and cryptograms. In retirement, Tiny enjoyed assisting the church school teachers in Florida by correcting papers. He delighted in tutoring the grade school children in their studies. Friends in Florida and Wisconsin were very important to Tiny.Tiny is survived by his wife Ann, his children: Bruce (Mindy) Gosdeck, Brenda (Bob) Carder, all of Oshkosh, two brothers Rev. Ronald (Terri) Gosdeck of Tavares, FL., Donald (Kathy) of Bluffton, OH., six grandchildren Erik, Elizabeth, Christopher, Codie, Jonathan, and Brianna, his cousin Professor David Gosdeck of New Ulm, MN., special nieces and nephews, and very special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be held on Saturday August 9, 2014, from 10 a.m. until noon at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside and at the church from 2 p.m. until the service. A memorial service for Tiny will be held on Saturday August 9, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church (WELS) in Menasha (N8728 S Coop Rd.) with Rev. Jesse Johnston officiating.
