Howard R. Howie Wenzel, 87, of Oshkosh died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Evergreen Retirement Community. He was born April 28, 1926 in Chicago, IL a son of the late Arnold and Anna Wenzel. He married Joan Schulze on July 14, 1951, in Appleton and she preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1992.Howie had worked for the Wisconsin DNR for 45 years in fisheries management. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a lifetime member of the Otter Street Fishing Club and member of Ducks Unlimited and the Midnight Club.Howie is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (James) Ball of Oshkosh and Karen (John) Novotny of Mankato, KS; a son, Mark (Vicky) Wenzel of Oshkosh; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Wenzel of Blue River, WI; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Gabriel, Noah, Abigail, Sarah, Jesse, Brett, and Lindsey; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard Wenzel.A funeral service for Howie will be held Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church (370 Bowen St. Oshkosh), Rev. Kelly Leary officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.Howies family wishes to thank the staff at Sharehaven-Evergreen and Generations Hospice for all the wonderful care given.
