Irene A. Messer, 101, of Oshkosh, died Sunday May 22, 2011 at her residence. She was born on August 21, 1909 in the town of Vinland a daughter of Leonard and Elsa Haueter Erdmann. On October 31, 1936 she married Edward Haase in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1969. She then married Ralph Messer on April 11, 1973 in Baraboo. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1976.Irene was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ and loved to go fishing at the cottage, traveling, bingo, and spending time with her family and friends.She is survived by on step-daughter Jean Hancock of Hales Corners, one son-in-law Wayne Probst of Beaver Dam, four step-grandsons Robert(Brenda) Probst of Beaver Dam, Andrew(Tracy) Probst of Beaver Dam, Matthew Hancock of Hales Corners, Thomas Hancock of Hales Corners, three step-great-grandsons, one step-great-granddaughter, a special niece, Beverly Smith and Nikko, other nieces, nephews cousins and friends.She was preceded in death by one step-daughter Margaret Probst, three brothers Verne, Victor and Henry Erdman, two sisters, Frieda Weisgerber, Evelyn Krings, and her beloved dog Sassy.Funeral services for Irene will be held on Thursday May 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Pauls United Church of Christ with Rev. Rae Ann Beebe officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.A memorial has been established to St. Pauls United Church of Christ.The family would like to thank Mabel Reichard, Craig Johnson, Iroc, and the staff at Arborview for all their care.
