Irene M. Hebblewhite, 106, of Oshkosh, died on May 2, 2051 at Eden Meadows Green House Homes in Oshkosh. She was born February 12, 1909 on the family farm near Westfield, Wisconsin, the youngest of six children of Edward and Augusta (Sauer) Tonn. After graduating from the rural, one-room schoolhouse near the farm, the family moved her to Oshkosh to attend high school while living with her sister, Adeline Muehrer and her family. She graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1927. Rather than going on to college, she decided to get a job to assist her sister financially. Within a month of graduation, she began working at the First National Bank (now U.S. Bank), a relationship that lasted over 45 years.Irene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed numerous bridge clubs for many years - one club was sustained for over 50 years. Bridge clubs were augmented by sheepshead at work and home, and later numerous games with the fellow residents at Carmel. And always a die-hard fan of the Packers and Brewers. In 1942, she married Clem Hebblewhite shortly before he entered service with the U.S. Army. After the war, they eventually settled in their home on Powers Street. When Clem passed away in 1986, she traveled extensively, but in 1996, decided to move to the Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh campus, her residence for the next 18 years.Irene is survived by her son, Tom of Albuquerque, New Mexico; granddaughters Heidi in Frisco, Texas and Lori in Albuquerque; grandson, Scott, also in New Mexico; and her great-grandchildren - Haley and JT Fuller in Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clem, brothers Albert, Edward and Hermann, sisters Adeline and Emily, and her niece and life-long best friend, Mildred Peters. The family deeply appreciates the care and friendship Irene received from the staff at Carmel, Gabriel's Villa and Eden Meadows for so many years. Funeral services for Irene will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church (370 Bowen Street) with Reverends Kelly Leary and Ron Meier officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park..A memorial to Bethel Foundation has been established.
