James “Jim” A. Maldwin, age 77, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center. James was born to the late Arnold and Alice (Trettin) Maldwin on September 18, 1940 in Appleton. He graduated from Appleton West High School in 1958. He married Donna Spierings on October 21, 1961 in Appleton and spent 55 years of marriage together until her death in 2017.
Jim loved the car business – he was a true “car guy.” He began his career as a mechanic and then served as Zone Manager for General Motors for 15 years before moving to the retail side. Jim was the General Manager for several dealerships before fulfilling his dream of owning a new car dealership when he purchased West Side GM in Berlin, WI in 1996.
Jim was a successful business man, avid Packers fan, enjoyed boating, trips to Vegas, but most of all he loved spending time with his family having Sunday night dinners and Christmas Eve sleepovers. He will be remembered for his quick wit, engaging personality, his wisdom, character, kind heart, and telling it like it was. He was compassionate about helping others and was a mentor to many people. Jim was instrumental in establishing the charity golf outing supporting the Caring for Kids Foundation and the Berlin community. He was deeply loved and will be truly missed.
James is survived by his three children, Kim (Steve) Maldwin, Jeff (Lisa) Maldwin and Lori Wendt, all of Oshkosh; eight grandchildren: Ashley (Andy) Kortbein, Courtney (Jake) Hintze, Joshua (Kelsey) Pik, Alex and Milena Maldwin, Kaitlyn (Kyle) Colburn, Kylie, and Madison Wendt; eight great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Sydney, Sawyer, London, Hunter, Harrison, Noah, and Hayden. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law, Karl Wendt, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Konrad-Behlman Westside (100 Lake Pointe Dr). Rev. Tim Greenwald will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Jim’s memory.
