James A. Rueckert, age 79, passed from this life into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side on Tuesday, March 13, at Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Fond du Lac, WI on January 21, 1928 to Walter A. and Dorothy (Steen) Rueckert. He married Helen E. Schulz on July 2, 1949 at First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, WI. Together they celebrated 39 years of marriage and three children. Helen preceded Jim in death on December 21, 1987. Jim married Nancy L. (Schein) Ferguson on December 26, 1988. Together they celebrated 18 years of marriage.Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946 and was a member of the American Legion Cook-Fuller Post 70, the VFW Post 1908, the Oshkosh Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #292 and was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He, Helen and children moved to southern California where among other positions Jim was a service manager for a Dodge dealership. The family then returned to Oshkosh where Jim worked for Wirtz auto dealership as an auto parts manager and then Oshkosh Motor Truck. Because of his great love for antiques and furniture, Jim and his wife Helen founded Rueckerts Furniture Refinishing Service in 1972 until retiring in 1989. He was proud to have published a book titled The Complete Book of Furniture Refinishing. Jim and Nancy enjoyed traveling and socializing with many friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed reading Westerns and history books, loved to fish, play cribbage and enjoyed a good debate. Survivors include his wife Nancy, children Barry (Stephanie) Rueckert of Muskego, WI, Barbara (Jerrold) Kamp of Cedar Falls, IA and Paul (Rebecca) Rueckert of St. Louis, MO; step-children Mark Ferguson and Paula (James) Condor, both of Oshkosh and Jill (Scott) Paul of DePere, WI. Jim is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild: Jamison (fianc Sam Brazys) Rueckert, Kaelyn Rueckert, Rebecca (Michael) Malivuk, Benjamin Kamp, Jeremy (Annie) Kamp, Krisa Kamp, Nathan (Micaela) Rueckert, Brian (Kendra) Rueckert, Kathleen Rueckert, Caley Condor, Lisa Condor, Austin Paul and Nolan Kamp. He is further survived by his sister Ruth (Keith) Comeaux of Marinette, WI; brother, Ray (Elida) Rueckert of Saginaw, MI; sister-in-law Verna Rueckert of Menomonee Falls, WI; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Nancys twin sister Pat (Bill) Wetterau of Viera, FL; brother-in-law Norm (Cindy) Schein of Onalaska, WI; sister-in-law Bette Stebbins of Lancaster, CA and brother-in-law William Schein of Appleton, WI. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Helen, parents Walter and Dorothy and a brother Walter.Funeral services for Jim will be held on Friday, March 16, 2007 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Drive, Oshkosh, WI at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Timothy Greenwald will be officiating. Friends and neighbors may gather at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.Nancy and the family express their gratitude to the staff at Mercy Medical Center for their compassionate care for Jim and his family. A memorial has been established.
