James A. Westphal, age 88, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Hospice in Home of Hope, Fond Du Lac. He was born to the late Elmer and Elda (Nelson) Westphal on June 14, 1935, in Shawano, WI. Jim married his beloved wife Julia Kirch on July 19, 1958, in Appleton.
After graduating from high school, Jim served in the U.S army. Stationed in Germany from 1954 – 1956. He received an Honorable Discharge from Army Reserves in 1962.
Jim graduated from Stout University with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later went on to achieve certification as an auto motive engineer and was lead in the engineering department as Chief Engineer - Senior at Oshkosh Truck, until his retirement in 1992.
Jim and Judy loved to travel extensively in the USA and the world. In his younger years, Jim loved to hunt, fish and camp. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Jim is survived by his four children, Jeffrey, Brenda, and Kirk, Westphal, Deanne (James) Schaub; grandchildren, Bria (Caleb), T.J., Richard, David, and Megan (Eric); and great-grandchildren, Sophie, Cory, Ella, and Owen.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Julia; parents, as well as his six siblings.
A service for Jim will be held at St. Jude-St. Vincent site (1225 Oregon St, Oshkosh WI) on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 11AM. A time of visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of service. A burial will take place at Nepeuskun Cemetery.
