James E. Richards, 72 of Oshkosh, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 15 at his home. Jim was born October 23, 1935 in Leopolis Wisconsin, the son of Ervin and Mary (Brunner) Richard. He married Margaret Kahl on June 21, 1958 in Gresham. After graduating from Gresham High School, Jim received a bachelors degree from UW-Stevens Point and a Masters Degree from UW-Oshkosh. He taught in the Oshkosh Public School System for over 33 years. During that time he coached basketball and track at Perry A. Tipler Middle School, and basketball at Oshkosh West High School.Jim actively supported amateur baseball in Oshkosh through his involvement in the Oshkosh Giants Baseball Organization and the Snitz Club. He greatly enjoyed his time spent as a volunteer docent at the EAA Museum.Jim was a faithful, active member of St Johns Catholic Church, where he taught religion classes and served as a lector for many years.He was an enthusiastic and loyal sports fan; following Oshkosh West athletics, the Badgers, and the Packers. He enjoyed attending his grandchildrens activities.Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret Richards; his five children, Debra (Jon) Koleski of Golden Valley, MN, and David (Christine) Richards of Oshkosh, Kris (Greg) Patten of Pickett, Thomas (Christine) Richards of Neenah, and Timothy (Kelly) Richards of Seattle, WA; his eight grandchildren, Nathan, Bethany, and Elisabeth Patten, James and William Richards, Edward Koleski, and Theresa and Charlie Richards; one brother, Robert (Carol) Richards of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law Kathy Bowman of Shawano, cousin David Kahl of Clintonville, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.He is preceded in death by his parents.Jim will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial for James will be held Wednesday December 19, 2007 at 10:00 AM at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Parish-St. Vincent Site, Rev. Bill Van De Kreeke officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
