James "Jim" Garno died of natural causes on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at The Residence. He resided there since August 18, 2024. He was born on October 24, 1930 in Bear Creek Wisconsin, the son of Louis and Hazel Garno. He spent most of his life in Oshkosh, graduating from Oshkosh High School in 1951. He married Joyce Messerschmidt on August 16, 1952, they were married for 68 years, until her death on November 5, 2020.

After their marriage, Jim served in the Army as a clerk at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri, he was eventually honorably discharged. He returned to Oshkosh, working at Cowan Dairy, Dunphy Boat and Flavor Kist. His final job was at the Canteen Company, servicing vending machines. He retired on March 31, 1992 after 26 years of service.

He enjoyed bowling, achieving a "300" game on April 10, 1986 at the T&O Bowling Lanes. His real passion was golf. He was a member of many leagues and enjoyed traveling with Joyce to play at new courses. They spent winters in Green Valley, Arizona to continue playing golf year-round. When he physically could not play golf, he continued his involvement by watching golf on TV, and that includes the reruns!

He was a proud member of the Oshkosh Elks #292 for over 50 years, earning "Elk of the Year" in 2019-2020.
