James I. Gauger, age 71, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of his Lord on Thursday, May 24th after a courageous battle with cancer. Jims memory will be forever cherished by those he loved: his mother, Esther Gauger, 97, of Oshkosh; his children and grandchildren, Scott, Julie, Colton, and Grayson Gauger of Stillwater, MN, Stephanie, Terry, Regan, Anna, and Turner Truttschel of Delafield, Stacy, Todd, Jordyn, and Hogan Berger of Oshkosh, Sheri and Calvin Wheeler, her fiance Craig Sweeney and children, McCormick and Kennedy of Delafield, Jamie, Kari, Josselyn, and Wyatt Gauger of Sheboygan; his wife of 33 years, his forever friend Jan Gauger of Delafield; his brother David and Judy Gauger of Appleton; as well as the many extended family and friends that knew him and his kind, loving, and generous spirit. He is preceded in death by his father, Harry Gauger. Jim was born October 15, 1940 and was raised in Oshkosh where he graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1957. He met and married his wife, Jan and began to build his family. He was a member of the Army and Army National Guard as a medic from 1958 until 1966 and served at Fort Lewis. He started his family in Milwaukee and moved to Sheboygan in 1971. Jim was a gifted engineer for 30 years sharing his talents at Rhode Brothers, Inc., Donahue and Associates, and Aldrich Chemical. After retirement he continued on with is passion of cooking at the EAA. His favorite hobbies included drawing, mostly birds and flowers, and collecting Eagles. He was most proud of his children and made sure they were with him before he passed away. A small memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday May 27, 2012 at Bethel home Chapel, where he worshiped with his mother for the past 10 years. The family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh be made in lieu of flowers. A special heartfelt thanks to those who gave Jim such tender loving care and allowed him to maintain his dignity and respect in his final months, especially Dr. Thomas Klinkhammer, Dr. Davis and the staff at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, the staff from 5th floor Mercy Medical Center, and the entire staff at Eden Meadows.
