James J.D. Velie

James J.D. Velie, age 86, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Veterans Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born on November 20, 1926 in Oshkosh a son of Cyrel and Lila Christian Velie. He was married to Irene Karban Velie for 50 years. She preceded him in death in 1998.James was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served briefly on the U.S. Wisconsin Battleship, traveled to China and served as a cook. He was employed at the Coca Cola Plant and Lenox Candles for many years. He loved working in his yard, hunting, traveling and took great pride in the fact he built his own home.He is survived by his children Patricia(Ethan) Runkle, Stanley(Kathy), Sally(Don) Rasmussen, eight grandchildren Brenda, Brian, Aaron, Allan, James, Annie, Michelle, Jamie, 13 great-grandchildren, two sisters Lois and Lucille.He was preceded in death by his wife, one son Stephen, two sisters Yvonne, Eunice, one brother Joel and his parents.Funeral services for James will be held on Saturday November 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Military honors will be held at the funeral home following the funeral. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.A memorial has been established.The family would like to thank the ICU staff at the Veterans Medical Center.
