James William “Jim” Nelsen, age 72, passed away at his residence on Monday, March 13, 2017. He was born in Berlin, WI on June 9, 1944 to the late Rhinard and Anna (McCloy) Nelsen.
He was a veteran of the US Army, served as a volunteer fireman/EMT of the Poy Sippi Fire Dept., enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, helped many people with various projects, and was known in Poy Sippi as the, “Great and Powerful Oz.”
James is survived by his children: Deb (Mark) Kasper, Denise (Jeff) Vandermolen, Doug Nelsen, and James (Jean) Nelsen; ten grandchildren: Jenny (Jim) Graf, Jodie (Chris Allen) Kasper, Ben Vandermolen, P.J. Nelsen, Adam Harrington, Vanessa Mowry, Meekael Nelsen, Jordan and Dylan Jahnz, Brandon Begerman, Amanda (Tim) Zaring; and twelve great grandchildren: Emmeline, Kaleb, Landen, Charlotte, Alexandria, Rheanen, Danielle, Keegan, Emily, Natalie, Carson, and Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rhinard and Anna Nelsen, brothers John and George Nelsen, and his sister-in-law Joyce Nelsen.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11 am at First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota St. Oshkosh, WI. Visitation will take place at 9:30 until the time of service.
