James (Jim) Alvin Van Buren, age 77, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Theda Care in Waupaca, WI. Born in Beaver Dam, WI, on May 17, 1947, Jim was the son of Lester and Jeanette (Tjepkema) Van Buren.
With a strong work ethic, he spent many years as a dedicated truck driver and proudly served his country as a veteran of the Vietnam War. Jim found immense joy in life's simple pleasures, especially in cheering for the Brewers. His love for the great outdoors shone through in his passion for camping and fishing, often seen casting a line into Lake Michigan. His retirement years were filled with adventures in Florida, where he enjoyed cruising to new destinations. Even during his stay at the King Veterans Home, he embraced life by taking as many pontoon rides as he could, surrounded by nature.
He leaves behind a loving family including his daughters, Julie (Mark) Maske, Heidi (Dan) Essington, and Melanie (Randy) Rahn; his brothers, Kevin (Linda) Van Buren and Mark (Dawn) Van Buren; his sister, Betty Zellner; and his sister-in-law, Chris Van Buren. He will always be remembered by his grandchildren, Peyton Maske, Dan Essington Jr., Makayla Essington, and Abby Essington, along with many dear friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Jeanette Van Buren; his wife, Cherie; his brother, Larry Van Buren; and his beloved granddog, Ginger.
