Jane A. Zemke

Age 91, of Oshkosh, WI. passed away on Monday, May 31, 2010.. She was born in Oshkosh on December 17, 1918 to William C. and Alice C. (nee Schlagenhauf) Steinert. Jane attended Jefferson School and graduated from Oshkosh High School. Following graduation she worked as a photo retoucher for Mathieu Studios and also in the blueprint department of Rockwell Axle in Oshkosh as part of the WWII effort. On June 16, 1945 she married U.S. Army Technician IV, Walter E. (Babe) Zemke at Peace Lutheran Church, Oshkosh. Once her four children were older, Jane worked as a sales associate for Lindo's Interiors and subsequently for the H.C. Prange Company in Oshkosh until her retirement in 1985. Jane loved to play tournament bridge with her friends. She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her husband, Walter, children, Paul (Mary) Zemke, Judith Zemke and Mark (Sandra) Zemke, all of Milwaukee, WI and Dr. Kurt Zemke, Berlin WI. Further survived by grandchildren, Sarah (Kevin) Dirst of Denver, CO. and Eric, Evan, Alex and Lauren Zemke. Also survived by her younger sisters, Mavis (the late John) Bowman and Marilyn (the late W. Leslie) Swensen, both of San Diego, CA, and Carol (the late Donald) Palecek of Greendale, WI. as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral service at Noon on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church , 240 W. 9th Avenue,, Oshkosh, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Private family burial at Lake View Memorial Park. Jane's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Evergreen Retirement Community, Creek View South, for her special care over the past four years, and to the staff of Heartland Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jane's name may be made to Evergreen Retirement Community or to Peace Lutheran Church. You will forever live on in our hearts.
