Jean D Hielsberg

Jean D. Hielsberg (Rothe) passed away on November 1, 2018 at Eden Meadows. She was born to the late Orville and Dorothy (Grunsnick) Rothe on December 18, 1933 in Oshkosh. She married Gordon Hielsberg on May 16, 1953 in Oshkosh. They were members at Peace Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for 50 years. Jean loved singing and even sang in her father’s band and lead many operettas in her youth. She worked as a secretary for Oshkosh Public Schools for over 30 years. Jean had a personality that could light up a room and a sharp wit that she had all the way till the end. Earlier in her life, Jean struggled with alcohol addiction and was very proud of and open about her 30 plus years of sobriety. She loved being with people. She enjoyed golfing and bowling. Jean loved sports and was an avid Packer, Brewer’s, and Bucks fan and there wasn’t a day she didn’t have a Brewer game on. She loved going to her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and would be in the seats for every game.
Jean is survived by her husband, Gordon; three children Jeff (Janice) Hielsberg, Kurt (Wendy) Hielsberg, and Lori (Chris Stapleton) Van Airsdale; six grandchildren, Devon Hielsberg, Sam (Isabella) Hielsberg, Sarah Hielsberg, Brent (Meghan) Hielsberg, Carson Hielsberg, and Cole Van Airsdale; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Josephine.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack Rothe and John Erkus.
A service for Jean will be held at Peace Lutheran Church (240 W 9th Ave) on Thursday, November 08, 2018, at 11AM. A visitation will be held from 9 AM until the time of service. Rev. Brad Dokken will be officiating. An entombment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
