Jeanette E. Hoffman, age 89, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Friday August 2, 2013 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born on May 15, 1924 in Oshkosh a daughter of Hugo and Eleanor Merten Merk. On April 10, 1942 she married Earl Hoffman in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1977.She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ where she served on the church council, several committees, and was involved with Daughters of Sarah and the Womens Guild. She was a member of the 20th Century Club. Jeanette loved fashion and it showed in many aspects of her life. After the death of her husband she worked at Bee Frank and Polly Z dress shops, devoting a lot of time at each store with her decorating expertise and her gift wrapping. This love of fashion was exhibited in her personal life also where she was always well dressed and loved her many purses and shoes. She was also a superb cook and baker who pleased her family with her homemade pies and enjoyed trying new recipes. In addition to her cooking and baking skills she was also wonderful at decorating her home. She loved her family and enjoyed all they did for her especially her son-in-laws chicken soup he always made for her.She is survived by her loving children, Paul Hoffman and Carla(Curtis) Schultz; her grandchildren, Eric(Danielle) Schultz, Stephanie(Brian) Meixl, Thomas(Tina) Hoffman, Megan(Timothy) Dunsirn, and Brianne(Aaron) Kiefert; 12 great-grandchildren, Landin Meixl, Brady Meixl, Makena Dunsirn, Grasyn Dunsirn, Emery Dunsirn, Tegan Dunsirn, Ethan Dunsirn, Chloe Hoffman, Sophie Hoffman, Bennett Schultz, Henry Kiefert, and Brynn Kiefert; one brother, Kenneth(Maxine) Merk; one sister, Mary(Jack) Fuller; nieces, nephews, and dear friends.She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Hugh Merk; a sister, Esther Desbrow; and her parents.A memorial service will be held on Tuesday August 6, 2013 at 4 p.m. at Emmanuel United Church of Christ with Rev. Andi Wolf officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service. A private family interment will be held at Lake View Memorial Park.A memorial has been established.The family would like to thank the staffs of Touchmark and Peabody Manor for their care of Jeanette.
