Jerome Jerry S. Durant, 77 of Oshkosh, died Friday December 19, 2008 at his home. He was born in Oshkosh on April 8, 1931 son of Charles and Mildred Sherman Durant. On June 7, 1952 he married Betty Correll in Newport News, VA.Jerry had been employed as a dispatcher for CW Transport. He had served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Jerry was a member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church. Jerry was an avid sportsman; enjoying softball and golf. He was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame and was the first manager in Wisconsin to take a team to the World Softball Championship in Long Island, NY. He had been on the Softball Commission and was a member of Club 13. He had been active in youth softball; was a Big Brother; coached YMCA football; was an active member with Mid-Morning Kiwanis, but considered his best years to be the ones that he coached Tommys Angelettes. He is survived by his wife, Betty Durant of Oshkosh; two daughters, Kathy (Russ Sr.) Stang of Oshkosh, and Debbie (Jeff) Englebert of Menasha; a son, Jerry (Mary) Durant Jr. of Oshkosh; a brother, Bill Durant of International Falls, MN; two sisters, Mary (Dave) Robl of Oshkosh, and Jeanne Baby Sister (Wayne) Wachowiak of Appleton; six grandchildren, Russ (Jodi) Stang Jr. of Oshkosh, Jennifer (Steve) Dewhurst of Oshkosh, Chanin (Tim) Styka of Menasha, Leigh (Justin) Englebert of White Fish Bay, WI, Chris Englebert of Menasha, and Kaylee Durant of Oshkosh; five great grandchildren, McKaylyn, Megan, Gavin, Hunter, Kate; and special friends, Reno, Neil, and Vern. He was preceded in death by a brother, Evans Durant. --The love I have for my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren is so very great. I felt so very blessed to have such a wonderful family. They are so much loved, no one on earth could take that away.A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jerry on Monday December 22, 2008 at 5:00 PM at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church with Fr. Douglas LeCaptain officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Monday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. A memorial has been established to Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
