Jerry Herbert Doemel of Oshkosh passed away peacefully on November 18th, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Doemel and Edna Violet (Covil) Doemel; his beloved wife, Phoebe Sue (Morgan) Doemel; his older sister, Bette (Dusty) Kanitz; his grandson, Devin Doemel; and his step-granddaughter, Sarah Flink. He is survived by his sisters Joan Neustifter, Sharon Peppler, his brother Herbert Doemel, and by his five children: Robin (Bruce) Reid, Peter (Nancy) Doemel, Jeri Lynn (Larry) Borgard, Andrew (Sherri) Doemel and Mark (Jana) Doemel. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren: Samantha, Stowe, Jonathan, Ryan, Christina, Eric, Beau, Jordan, Dannielle, Stacie, Hope, and Chelsie; as well as 14 great grand children.Jerry was born on June 6th, 1932 in Oshkosh, and grew up on Doemels Point, where he worked alongside his father before the family moved to a farm on Highway 41. He later worked at Rockwell Standard as a machinist.Although he had no formal training, Jerry had a creative mind, often constructing his own inventions or refining existing machines and contraptions. He built three homes, all based on designs by his artist wife Sue, whom he married in 1951. Jerry loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours managing his woodlands (his nickname was Wood Miser). He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. When he was not in his boat or spending time in his cabin in Langlade, Jerry loved nothing more than crisscrossing the country on his motorcycle with Sue on the back.Always happy in the saddle, Jerry was a horseman and had an avid love of the "Old West" a passion he passed on to his children and grandchildren, frequently taking the kids on trail rides. He also loved to take the family on extended trips around the country, which were extensively documented in home movies.Everyone who knew Jerry was touched by his warmth and sense of humor. He loved to play with words, often inventing new ones of his own, and always had a ready joke or snappy turn of phrase. His larger-than-life personality inspired everyone around him. He had a rare talent for making new friends, many who were quickly cajoled into helping him with whatever project he was working on at the time.Wherever Jerry went, he had an impact on peoples lives and his boisterous laughter will ring loud and long in all our memories. The family wishes to thank the extraordinary staff at Azura Memory Care Retirement Home who cared for Jerry during the last year of his life.A Life Celebration will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22nd.
