Joan Elizabeth Schirger, 83, passed away on December 31, 2019 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 8, 1936 in Rahway, New Jersey and is the daughter of the late Julius and Elizabeth (Bolan) Jaeger. Joan graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Perth Amboy, NJ and attended Rutgers College of Business in New Brunswick, NJ. On June 10, 1961, she married the love of her life Joseph Schirger at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Avenel, NJ. Joan and Joe moved to Oshkosh, WI in 1976.
Joan was an active member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish (Sacred Heart) volunteering her time and talents. She was a woman of great faith, especially devoted to the Eucharist and the Blessed Mother, and was proud to have been a Secular Franciscan for over thirty years.
She worked as a customer service consultant for ATT and later as a teller and loan processor for Fox Valley Savings and Loan.
Above all else, Joan enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She is fondly remembered for her ability to throw a party together at a minute’s notice. Her cookies, cakes, pies, and kolaches were family favorites. She was able to sew almost anything including Halloween costumes, horse blankets, children’s clothing and bean bags.
Joan is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joseph; her five children Diane Schirger of Wisconsin Rapids, Joseph (Patti) Schirger Jr. of Grafton, Sharon (Bill) Boehme of Oshkosh, James (Laurie) Schirger of Elizabeth, Colorado and Jane Schirger of Oshkosh; Seven grandchildren Megan, Michael, Liam, Madison, John, Therese, Matthew; sister-in-law Marion Jaeger and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers Julius (Madeline), James (Irene) and William.
A funeral service for Joan will be held on January 7 at St. Jude the Apostle Parish (Sacred Heart) at 11 AM. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 AM until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery following the service.
