Joan L. Zwirchitz, 91, of Oshkosh, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Bethel Home. She was born in Oshkosh on August 28, 1919, daughter of Laurin and Amy (Stille) Miller. On June 3, 1944 she married LeVern Zwirchitz in New York, NY at the Little Church Around the Corner.Joan was a math and English teacher in the Oshkosh Public Schools, a profession she dearly loved and was dedicated to. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She had been actively involved in many Masonic organizations, including: Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Past Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Social order of SOOB, Cauldron, Noble Ladies, Advisor to Jobs Daughters, Order of Eastern Star Wautoma, and she was a life member of the National Association of Retired Teachers.Joan and LeVern enjoyed dancing and spending summers at their cottage with family. Family was very important to her, she was happiest when surrounded by the sounds and activities of a family gathering. Joan liked reading and working on puzzles, especially crosswords. She loved music, often bursting into song while cooking in the kitchen or when calming a grandchild. Grandchildren and family pets always found comfort and love on her lap. On numerous family vacations her wonderful laugh provided much comic relief with her ability to see the humor in any situation. The journals she kept of these vacations will keep these memories alive.Joan is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, LeVern Zwirchitz, Oshkosh; sons, John (Sharon) Zwirchitz Jr., Appleton; Peter (Sally) Zwirchitz, Oshkosh; and Paul Zwirchitz, Waupaca; son-in-law, John Craig, Madison; brother, John, Oshkosh; sister-in-law, Mary Jean Miller, Appleton; seven grandchildren, John (Melissa) Craig Jr., Waunakee; Becky (Michael) Glaeser, Ripon; Alison (Michael) Hipp, Dearborn Heights, MI; Stephanie (fianc1/2 - Nick Cowling) Zwirchitz, Neenah; Zachary Zwirchitz, Oshkosh; Katie Zwirchitz, Des Moines, IA; and Kari Zwirchitz, Madison; five great grandchildren, Tori and Paige Craig, Waunakee; James and Molly Glaeser, Ripon; and Andrew Hipp, Dearborn Heights, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, LeAnn Craig; brother, Laurin Miller Jr.; sister, Susan Bartels; Susans husband, Ray; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Miller; nephew, David Bartels; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Frances Zwirchitz.The funeral for Joan will be Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church with Fr. Steven Powers officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park. Family and friends may call at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside on Sunday from 12-3 PM and at the church on Monday from 10 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the Trinity Episcopal Church, Alzheimers Research, and Breast Cancer Research.The family wishes to thank those that took such good care of Joan, including the Bethel Home Staff, Aurora VNA Hospice, Dr. Steven Blaha and Jamie Bonell.The life that is well spent is a long life. ~Leonardo da Vinci
