Joan M. Brady, age 88, of Oshkosh, passed away at Aurora Medical Center on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. She was born in Medford, Massachusetts to the late Ira and Rose (Cunnington) Loggie on January 26, 1933.
After graduating from Medford High School in 1950, she worked at M&M Transport where she created many lifelong friendships. Joan married the late John Brady on July 16, 1955 at St. Francis Church in Medford and started what would be a family of seven children. They moved the growing family to Nashua, NH in January of 1962 and then to Oshkosh, WI in June of 1971. As their children were getting older, Joan went back to work at Mercy Medical Center as a maintenance department secretary. It was there where she made friendships that would last into her retirement.
Joan was a former member of Sacred Heart Church, and a current member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church. She loved traveling, especially visiting her children and grandchildren across the country. When she wasn’t with her children or grandchildren, she enjoyed the company of her lunch groups. Joan was a master gardener; she liked to pass time doing word games, reading, playing solitaire on her iPad, or keeping up with current events via television or radio. She also enjoyed Bible study at church for many years.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Paul (Bonnie) Brady, William (Janelle) Brady, Joseph (Julie) Brady, Janet Nekich (Dino Piscopo), Mary (Kurt) Boenisch, Patricia (Andrew) Mielke, and Lynn (Kurt) Hjelle; grandchildren, Sarah (Nathan), Patrick (Craig), Megan (Derrick), John (Katie), Erin, Elizabeth, Daniel, Kathleen, Caitlyn, Kelly, Connor, Madeline, Gavin, and Alaina; sister, Marion Lonergan; special friends, Joan Koplitz, and Jane Kellerman and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her dear husband, John, and her parents Ira and Rose, Joan was preceded in death by infant daughter, Kathleen, her son-in-law, Dan Nekich; sister, Betty (Bob) Swanton; brothers-in-law, John Lonergan, James (Dottie) Brady; sister-in-law, Janet (Ted) O’Hearn; special friends, Kenneth Koplitz, and Robert Kellerman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 9, 2021 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 S Westhaven Dr. with Fr. Tom Long officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Raphael Parish Endowment Fund would be greatly appreciated.
Joan’s family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at Aurora Medical Center, especially the nurses who took such wonderful care of Joan during her final days and the Rehab staff at Park View Health Center. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
