Joan Sonnenberg

Joan D Sonnenberg of Oshkosh died Monday, March 21, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh.She was born February 4, 1938 to the late Harold and Emma Tessmer in Athens, Wisconsin. On August 7, 1965, Joan married the love of her life and husband of 33 years, Bruce E. Sonnenberg. After working at AC Spark Plug in Milwaukee, Joan and Bruce moved to Oshkosh to start a family, where Bruce taught in the Neenah Public Schools for 30 years. Her years in Oshkosh were dedicated to her family, friends, and community. She was the number one fan of her son, Craig. She enjoyed reading, was an outstanding cook, baker, and canner who was the family resource for any recipe know to mankind. Joan was a big personality who loved to tell stories and touched everyone she met. She knew everyone by name in her community including her pharmacists, grocers, and mail carriers to name a few. She extended her generosity to many charities. Joan loved to travel and spend company with her dear friends over dinner and was current on all topics.Joan is loved and missed by her son Craig Sonnenberg of Fitchburg; three sisters: Marcy (Vic) Novak of Milwaukee, Lynn (Ray) Steen of Medford, Cheryl (Tony) Eckert of Medford; sisters-in-law Mary Tessmer and Moonyean Tessmer both of Athens, Ellen (Rich) Naumann of Oshkosh; brother-in-law Gary (Jean) Sonnenberg of Milwuakee, and mother-in-law Violet Sonnenberg of Tomahawk. Joan loved kids and was source of inspiration to many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bruce, sister, Delores (Ed), brothers Jerry, Jim, and David. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. She would like to thank the caring staff at Mercy Medical Center for the kind treatment she received there and for the many doctors and nurses that helped her over the years.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Most Blessed Sacrament (St Marys Catholic Church - 605 Merritt Ave, Oshkosh) with Fr. James Jugenheimer officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass at 7:00 p.m. Entombment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.
