John E. Brown, age 87 of Oshkosh, passed away at Aurora Medical Center on Thursday, August 12, 2021. He was born on September 15, 1933 in Boulder, CO to the late Robert and Eunice (Bluhm) Brown on September 15, 1933. John married Bernice Sheveland on February 13, 1954 and had five children.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, he attended The College of William and Mary, where he earned his Master’s degree. John taught mathematics at South Park Middle School and went on to teach at Oshkosh West High School for a combined total of over 30 years.
John was a faithful member of MillCity Church of Neenah. He was a true family man and servant of God who raised his family to know, love, and accept God, and His Son, Jesus Christ.
John enjoyed the peacefulness of fishing, golfing, and reading and he loved to play cards!
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernice Brown; son: Phillip (Lynn) Brown; daughters: Susan (Stephen) Dignan, Shari (Steven) Rantala, Sandi (Steve) Spence, and Sarah (Steven) Rutledge; grandchildren: John Brown, Steve (Audrey) Ryder, Jeff (Stephanie) and Elizabeth (fiancé Michael Liu) Brown, David (Renee), Kyle (Danielle), Peter, Matthew (girlfriend Fiona Payton), and Quintin Dignan, Jackson Rantala, Michael (Ashley), Lauren, and Emily Spence, Josiah, Lucy, Elijah, and Noah Rutledge; great-grandchildren: Henry and Ivy Ryder, Charlotte and Caleb Brown, Madilyn and Cyrus Dignan; sisters: Carol Patterson, Shari (Thor) Hervold, Barbara (Jimmie) Mackery, and Gayle Paulson; sisters-in-law: Donna and Farida Brown. He is further survived by his Uncle Arley Bluhm and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers: Glenn, Charles David, and Philip Brown; sisters: Alliene, Faith, and Norma Brown; brothers-in-law: David Patterson, and Bob Paulson.
A funeral service for John will be held at MillCity Church, 120 N Lake Street, Neenah, WI 54956 on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 4:00 PM with Rev. Steve Spence officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. A private interment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh.
