John E. Harra, age 93, died peacefully on August 13, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 1, 1918 in Oshkosh the son of Earl F. and Rilla Wichman Harra. He married Marian Golz in January 1942. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2010 after 68 years of marriage. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII from 1944-1946. He was stationed in the South Pacific, Italy and Japan, completing his tour of duty in Hawaii. John established the Harra Beverage Company in 1946 with his brother Richard. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Last Mans Club, V.F.W. Post 1908, D.A.V. Post 17, American Legion Cook Fuller Post #70 where he volunteered at Bingo games. For many years he was involved in Senior Bowling leagues and enjoyed watching Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Green Bay Packers. He is survived by two daughters whom he was very proud of Mary(Mike) Pinter of Rockford, IL., Nancy Mather of Oshkosh, five grandchildren Debbie(Gary) Sarmiento of Rockford, IL., Susan(Frank) De Castris of Rockford, IL., Katie Pinter of Venice, CA., Carrie(Brian) Hildebrand-Loveland of Greenville, WI., Joseph(Michelle) Hildebrand of Grafton, seven great-grandchildren Dylan Loveland, Cecily Loveland, Jacob Sarmiento, Frankie De Castris, Bennett Hildebrand, Carson Hildebrand, Brynlee Hildebrand, two sisters-in-law Gloria Abraham of Oshkosh, Ellen Holz of Appleton, and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his in-laws, one brother, Richard Harra, two sisters-in-law Mary Jane Harra, Pauline Fithen, three brothers-in-law Harold Fithen, Elmer Abraham, and Gilbert Holz. Funeral services for John will be held on Wednesday August 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Eastside. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery where full military honors will performed.In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Johns name. The family would like to express their gratitude to Heartland Hospice for their gentle, compassionate care and support that was provided to Jack.
