John George Jack Crane, age 84, of Oshkosh passed away peacefully after a long battle with heart disease on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Northpoint Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Oshkosh. He was born on August 27, 1923 in Oshkosh, a son ofthe late Joseph and Theresa M. (RobL) Crane. The family name was Krenn. His grandparents Michael and Grace came to this country from Germany in 1884 and settled in Omro. Due to mispronunciation and spelling, the name was changed to Krane then Crane. Jack served his country in the Navy Air Corp as a pilot during WWII. He married his high school sweetheart Doris Mae Watson on January 3, 1946 and celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year.Jack worked for Rockwell International as chief tool designer and retired after 31 years. He was a docent at EAA for 25 years and enjoyed giving tours and sharing his knowledge of airplanes. He was a Red Cross five gallon blood donor. He enjoyed painting, camping, dancing to the big bands, traveling, gardening, and was a talented woodworker who enjoyed making model ships. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oshkosh.Jacks memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Doris of Oshkosh; two sons, James John (Diana) of Tallahassee, Florida, Paul William (Pamela R.) of Oshkosh; two grandchildren, Christopher John (fianc?e Brittany Flack) and Melissa Ann Crane of Oshkosh; two step-grandchildren, Bryan William Fritz of Concord, North Carolina, Jason Michael Fritz of Rothschild, WI; two step great- grandchildren, Byshop M. and Celeste A. Fritz of Schofield, WI. He is also survived by a loving niece, Teresa Ostertag, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and many friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clarence B. and Francis Frank J. whose plane was shot down over Saipan during WWII; and one sister, Frances Josephine Ostertag. Jack was a true gentleman. He was intelligent, devoted, loving, and kind.The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Northpoint for the compassionate and wonderful care given to Jack during the few weeks he was a resident.A Mass of Christian Burial for Jack will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at St. Jude Parish (Sacred Heart Church) 519 Knapp St. at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Thomas Reynebeau officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. to the Mass. Interment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Jacks name at st. Jude (Sacred Heart) Catholic ChurchJack, we will always love and miss you.
