John G. Yell, 83, Oshkosh, died at Aurora Medical Center on Thursday March 1, 2007. He was born on November 24, 1923, in Munising, MI, a son of John and Ellen Peterson Yell. He married Christine Miller on July 17, 1949 in Chicago, IL.John served with the Army Air Corps during WWII. While on a bombing run his plane was shot down and he was captured and became a prisoner of war. Following the war John was employed by Rockwell International until his retirement. He was a member of the ex- P.O.W. organization, Oshkosh Masonic Lodge #27 F. White Shrine of Jerusalem Bethel Shrine #2, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.Survivors include his wife, Christine, Oshkosh; son, Richard (Susan) Yell, Omro; daughter, Karen (Robert) Stauffer Jr. Oshkosh; a brother Gordon Yell, Munising, MI; five sisters, Beverley (Dick) Oas, Munising, MI; Dorothy (Peter) Twork, Conklin, MI; Helen Steinhoff, Marquette, MI; Priscilla Brevord, Revort, MI; Virginia (Jerry) Dufor, Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Tina (Tony) Barzano, and Jason (Angie) Jaes, both of Oshkosh; and one great grandchild, Alex Schoenick, Oshkosh. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Szarowicz.Private funeral services were held, with inurnment at Lake View Memorial Park.
