John “Jack" Alvin Retzloff, age 91, passed away into the Lord's hands on Friday, December 30,
2022 at Eden Meadows, East Green House, with his family by his side. He was born August 2,
1931 in Oshkosh, WI to the late Elmer and Viola (Girens) Retzloff. On September 10, 1955, he
married the love of his life, Kathleen “Kathy” D. Johnson at St. John's Catholic Church in
Oshkosh, WI and their marriage was blessed with four sons.
Jack graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1950. He earned a scholarship to play football at
Marquette University. Jack served in the National Guards for many years and in the United
States Army in 1961 - 62. Jack worked at Oshkosh Area School District in buildings and
grounds for 36 years. He was a faithful member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish and attended
St. Vincent site.
Jack played fast pitch baseball / softball on various teams throughout his years and was
inducted into the Oshkosh Baseball Hall of Fame. He continued to play ball until the age of 80.
Jack loved and looked forward to supporting his family at all school, sporting events and the
cottage. He especially looked forward to meeting up with friends at restaurants and religiously
watched all Green Bay Packer games.
He is survived by four sons, Mike (Cindy), Ronald (Sherri), Thomas (Laurie), and Peter
(Michelle) Retzloff; seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, eight great - grandchildren,
eleven step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Survived also by his
brothers, James (Amie) Retzloff and Robert Retzloff, and sister, Jean Mengert.
He was
preceded in death by wife Kathleen Retzloff, his parents, Viola and Elmer Retzloff; Kathleen’s
parents, Andrew and Viola Johnson and sister Joanne Raab, sisters-in-law Joyce (Melford)
Krubsack and Jane (Keith) Binning, and brother-in-law Wesley Mengert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Parish- St. Vincent site, 1225
Oregon St, on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Louis Golamari officiating.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass. Interment will take place at Calvary
Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
The Retzloff family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff and residents of Eden
Meadows, East Green House for making Jack feel right at home. Thank you to Aurora at Home
hospice for the compassionate care provided to Jack.
