John Karl Hinz

John Karl Hinz, 59, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 12, 2008 after battling cancer for the last year and a half. Jack was born April 28, 1948 in Oshkosh, the only son of Karl and Myrtle (Babler) Hinz, who both preceded him in death. He had two sisters, Hollace (Holly) and Helen. Helen also preceded him in death. Jack married Lynn Pollnow on May 3, 1969, and they had two sons together, John and DJ.Jack worked for Mercury Marine and retired after 32 years there late last year. He proudly enlisted in the US Army in 1965, and served one tour in Vietnam as a combat engineer before getting out in 1968. He was an avid motorcyclist, and in 1976 was a charter member of the Badger Motorcyclists of Wisconsin, a local BMW motorcycle club. Throughout his lifetime he amassed several hundred thousand miles on cycles, and it was one of his greatest passions. He often rode with his nephews, James and Robert Pollnow. Another passion, beginning with his familys business, Doty Park Kennels, was dogs. He was an accomplished trainer and handler with many champion American Water Spaniels, one of which retired undefeated, never failing to win best in show. Throughout his lifetime, Jack was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed shooting pool with all of his friends and family. He was a dedicated and caring father and husband, and always put his family before everything else in his life.Jack is survived by his wife, Lynn (Pollnow) Hinz, and two sons, John Hinz and Donald (DJ) Hinz, all of Oshkosh; one sister, Holly (Hinz) Thompson, Las Vegas, NV; one aunt, Laura (Babler) Porter, Green Bay; two brothers-in-law, Herbert (Joyce) Pollnow, Oshkosh, and Daniel (Nancy) Pollnow, Canton, GA; one sister-in-law, Vida (Peter) Allen, Oshkosh; three nephews, David (Charmaine) Allen, Allenville, James (Wendy) Pollnow, Oshkosh, Robert Pollnow, Oshkosh; one niece, Danielle Thompson, Las Vegas, NV; three step-nephews, Mike (Liz) Asher, Mason, OH, Jeff (Kathy) Asher, Roswell, GA, and Doug (Ann) Asher, Las Vegas, NV; and other more distant family members.Visitation will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home ? Eastside (402 Waugoo Ave) on Saturday, April 19 beginning at 10AM, and lasting until the services begin at noon. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
