John May, Jr at the age of 84 has passed away in Oshkosh, WI on April 22 2014. He died in his home in the care of his devoted wife of 62 years and family. John May, Jr. was born in Port Washington, WI on February 8th, 1930. His parents were John and Ann May. His brothers (all deceased) were Dick, Bill and Eugene. He has one remaining sister who resides in Texas, Doris Doll. He married Joan Gilson on August 4, 1951. After graduating high school in 1947, he joined the US Navy, where he was trained in electronics, and then served aboard several destroyers as a Radar Technician before and during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he was employed by Motorola in IL, working in new product development, Standard Kollsman in Oshkosh as the head of quality, and later retired from Badger Northland in Kaukauna, WI as a Quality Control Manager. John was interested in duck and goose hunting and loved the environment. He had owned land in Waushara County and he enjoyed planting and taking care of the trees. He was knowledgeable and interested in all sorts of nature. It was fitting that he passed away on Earth Day. He participated in youth baseball with his son Jeff and enjoyed shooting sporting clays with his son John and others. Known to his family and friends as Fixit, there was not much mechanical or electrical he could not fix. If he determined that an item was designed poorly he would adapt it to make it more functional. We all knew where to go when something needed to be fixed. His wife, Joan Gilson May, and 4 children survive John. His children include Jeanne Ackerman (Maury) of Lone Tree, CO, Jodi Hannis (Jeffrey) of Oshkosh, WI, John May (significant other Leslie Mueller-Grady) also of Oshkosh, WI and Jeffrey May (Becky) of Jackson, WI. His grandchildren include Jennifer Hannis of Milwaukee, WI, Alex, Elizabeth and Tyler all of Jackson, WI. He was dearly loved by all of us.At his request there will be a private memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mercy Medical Center who have helped John all of these years. Also special thanks to his hospice team from Affinity Ministry Health Care.
